Eastern and Western Governance
“The Four Ideographs of Marinoff,
Pre-Spanish Governance in the Philippines ,
Philippine Governance and Leading with Cultural Intelligence by Livermore ”
Debating is something that I have
enjoyed to do in the past.
Eloquence and meeting people through intellectual
conversations has fascinated me.
But there is no debating on who the better
people, the better culture nor the better government is.
Simply because there
is none. In the award winning essay of Patricia Evangelista,
a columnist and a
former debater of UP Diliman, “Blonde and Blue Eyes” she speaks about the
trend
of Filipinos even kids wanting to move out of the country for better
opportunities.
We compare ourselves with other countries saying that if I go
abroad, I’ll be happier,
I’ll be richer and I will have less problems. But most
often than not, we hear about the hardships.
We read about the OFWs who are
having a hard time in a foreign land in different
Filipino Migrant magazines.
I think that one way to eradicate
problem is to stop debating within ourselves that foreign is better.
Instead,
be happy and cherish what we have. Travel the country, enjoy the culture and
work or
own a business in the country.
As for me, I plan to stay. I love the
Philippines .
I love the country. I love what I have. And though I appreciate the minds and
culture of the West,
practice co-asian idealism like feng shui or yoga, I’ll be
proud to live a life in the Philippines .
Have a business that supports the local industry in the future. And point out
government flaws with friends;
hope that it will get better; and continue
loving Senator Miriam Defensor. I choose not to focus on the
negatives, nor
compare with the West. I am open to the government initiating projects that are
successful
from the Western countries. But what if we have a better solution or
a better system that will work for us?
